Getting your artwork print-ready

Getting your artwork print-ready

Great print starts with a good file. You don't need to be a designer, but a few basics will save time and get you exactly what you pictured. (If it sounds like a lot, our studio handles all of this for you.)

File format

A print-ready PDF is ideal. Vector files (from Illustrator or CorelDRAW) are best for logos and signage because they scale to any size without going blurry. High-resolution PNG or JPG also work for photographic artwork.

Resolution

For large format, bigger is better. Images that look fine on screen can pixelate when blown up to banner size. Supply the highest resolution you have, and avoid pulling small images off a website.

Bleed and safe area

  • Bleed: extend the background a few millimetres past the trim so there are no white edges after cutting.
  • Safe area: keep important text and logos away from the edges so nothing gets trimmed off.

Colour

Screens show colour in RGB; printing uses CMYK, so some bright screen colours shift slightly in print. If exact brand colours matter, tell us, and we'll advise and proof before printing.

We proof everything

Whatever you send, we produce a proof of exactly what will be printed and you approve it before production. And if your file isn't ready, our studio will set it up. Send us what you've got and we'll take it from there.
